Freezing Metadata
Freeze metadata.
Freeze metadata
• имя файла;
• формат файла;
• описание токена;
Freeze.

Opensea unlockable content metadata

Unlockable content allows the artist to add real-world value to the NFT outside of the digital token. Unlockables are available as an option when setting up an NFT. You can read more about that process in my previous blog. The unlockable section is a button you can turn on or off as shown in the image below.
Where is OpenSea metadata stored?
OpenSea supports the storage of NFT metadata in decentralized file networks, so that they can’t be modified by a central party. If you use IPFS to host your metadata, your URL should be in the format ipfs://<hash> .
What does metadata frozen mean OpenSea?
Freezing your metadata will permanently lock and store it on decentralized file storage, which allows your data to be accessible for other clients to view and use. This means, your item will forever be safely stored and will never be lost or missing.
What is unlockable content in NFT?
As explained in our NFT Cheatsheet, unlockable content is a set of secret files and content that is only accessible by the first buyer of the NFT and unlocked only after the NFT has been purchased.
How does unlockable content work?
Unlockable content is available as an option on certain marketplaces like Mintable when you set up your NFT. It can be turned on or off before you mint an item. Once you add unlockable content to your NFT, it will be linked to your NFT for collectors when they purchase your item.

Should you freeze metadata in Opensea?

NFTs are the hot new thing going around in the cryptocurrency world and are a great investment opportunity if you know what you’re doing.
However, they’re still new on the global stage, and people don’t know as much about them compared to just cryptocurrencies. In this article, we’re answering one of the most asked questions: should you freeze metadata in Opensea? And should you do it for your NFT listings?
Freezing NFT metadata
Freezing your metadata permanently locks and stores said data on decentralised file storage, allowing your data to be accessible to other clients to see and use. Essentially, this stores your item forever, and it can’t go lost or missing.
Freezing metadata locks the following information about the file.
- Item name
- File type (JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, MP4, WEBM, MP3, WAV, OGG, GLB, GLTF)
- Description
- Properties, levels, and stats
In short, everything will be frozen except any added unlockable content, which can only be unlocked or revealed by the file’s owner.
Should you freeze NFT metadata?
Freezing your NFT data depends on what you’re looking to do with your file. If you’d rather keep your file open to changes such as name, description, format and so on, it’s best not to freeze it just yet.
However, if you’d instead lock everything in place so that the file information can’t be changed no matter whether it stays under your ownership, you can freeze the NFT metadata.
How to freeze NFT metadata on Opensea?
Follow these steps if you want to freeze your NFT metadata on Opensea. Keep in mind that you can only freeze metadata after creating an item, so be sure to do that first.
Step 1: Head over to the collection you stored your item in and clicked Edit.

Step 2: Scroll down, enable the Freeze metadata slider and click on the Freeze button that appears.

After this, you’ll be taken through the freezing process step by step.
Should I freeze my NFT Metadata?
![]()
When trying to add a new item for sale, you’ll always see the option of either freezing the NFT metadata or not.
Before making that decision, I believe you should understand the concept of freezing metadata, the pros and cons, and how much is involved.
What does it mean to freeze NFT Metadata?
NFT metadata is what defines the properties of a piece. They include the name, image and video associated with it, description, properties, and stats.
During the minting of NFTs, the metadata and other associated files are saved on the Interplanetary File System (IPFS).
IPFS is a distributed system for storing and accessing files, websites, applications, and data.
With IPFS, we have a secure, transparent, and decentralized way to host the metadata of digital assets.
Once the metadata is hosted on the IPFS, you have the option of keeping it frozen or unfrozen.
Freezing the NFT data means locking it up permanently on the IPFS. The properties of the NFT will be permanently locked and stored on the file storage system and cannot be edited or removed.

What are the advantages of freezing my NFT metadata?
Freezing your metadata ensures that your metadata is permanently locked and stored on a decentralized file storage system making your data accessible to your buyers to view and make informed decisions.
It shields you from the risk of ever losing your metadata or it being edited by a foreign body.
Are there disadvantages of Freezing my NFT metadata?
I wouldn’t call them disadvantages per se but I think there are times or occasions when it’s best to leave your metadata unfrozen depending on the NFTs use case.
For instance, if an NFT is serving as a functional game piece, the metadata should be left unfrozen to showcase the dynamic abilities and statistics of the NFT.
So while playing the game, you can unlock new properties to the NFT metadata as you make progress.
This is a way to incentivize buyers to play more and create a new and unique NFT character.
Doesn’t that sound intriguing?
The baseline is that you have to consider the use case of your NFT to decide if the metadata should be frozen or not.
How much does it cost to freeze my NFT metadata?
It’s completely free to freeze your NFT metadata but you have to pay some gas fee for the action to be processed.
How do I freeze my NFT metadata?
I’ll be using Opensea as a case study. To freeze your metadata on Opensea, go to “My Collections” and select the item you want to freeze.
Click on “edit my item”. Search for the “freeze metadata” section and click on the toggle to enable the feature.
click on “Freeze” once the toggle is one.
You’ll get a prompt to confirm that all your information is correct and how it should be because once frozen, there’s no going back.
Once confirmed, you accept and click on “Submit transaction”.
You sign into your wallet and confirm the gas fee to complete the process.
With this done, your metadata is frozen.
Conclusion
Before you decide to freeze your NFTs metadata or not, you have to consider the use case(s) of the asset.
Freezing your metadata has its advantages likewise leaving it unfrozen.
Choose wisely. Make informed decisions. Don’t freeze your NFT metadata because everybody you know is freezing theirs.
Thanks for reading and I’ll be more grateful if you can share this to help others.
